Metal on Metal
Flashlights and loud sounds
Glass on the ground
Eyes slowly open
Start looking around
What did I see?
Crying baby in the backseat
Daughter in the front holding her arms out
Man in a uniform taking her out
Words form in my mouth, but don't come out
Jaws of life whiring
Red and Blue lights go off and on again
Board slides in behind my back
Uncomfortable neck brace
1,2,3 up on the gurney
Ready for this journey straight to Methodist SW
Mind still trying to process this
Remember
Remember
What happened?
How did you end up like this?
Tired. I was tired
Immediate turn around trip back to Austin
Without sleep
Caused closed eye lids
Eyes slightly open
Red brake lights right before me
Sharp right turn
Broken guard rail
Car slowed to a stop in a ditch
Ambulance ride
Pain in my side
Frightened look in my childs' eyes
Frantic ER doctor
X-rays, MRIs, blood draws and crying eyes
Assessments are done
Person hurt in all this,
Everything has been done
Call a friend to take y'all home
Everyone sleeps in the same bed
Medicine quiets the worry and accusatory voice in your head
There is one statement that stands out
Your baby could have been dead
The tears won't stop flowing out
Pleading with God to work things out
I am accountable for my actions
The sun rises
Ride to the junkyard to see the damage
Crumbled metal
No windows
Airbags deflated
Seat belts cut off
Back passenger side door smashed in
Breakdown begins again
People try to console you
Telling you to stay strong cause you made it through
Moral of this story, remember to take care of you
