I am Innocent

Day 2 National Poetry Month

I did not do it You said you would help through it

I know I have said this time and time before Lied straight to your face and now you are ready to close that door But, I did not do it I do not deserve to be treated like this Do you know the officer got so close to my face we could have kissed Face and body blows First with the night stick and and then with his fist Baton, my fault I was too distracted by the taser clicks Only in places where the bruises would be missed Then they all joined in I do not know why the dash cam footage does not prove this I mean his foot hit every single rib Then the ride here in handcuffs with no give I continued to scream..I did not do it Well, I tried to scream But, the pain from the beating had me slowly passing out They said stand up straight and state your name Flashing lights with a background that shows my height Black fingerprints on a card I think I just signed away my rights I am weak, its getting hard to breathe A lawyer, a phone call..I am suppose to get one of these I need to call my family I need to let them know I won't be home to eat You see, I just went to the store to get some milk Yes, I smelled like weed..but I wasn't selling or buying it I smoked it at my home before I left and there was none in my car Trust me I checked Had I been in trouble with the law before Yes, but never jail Always took probation I worked hard to avoid this hell But, now I am here Behind these metal bars Looking at these four walls I will not make it here I did not do what they said I did The charge: murder The person: the grocery clerk The evidence: none My race: Black The verdict: Guilty till innocent The conclusion: I will never get my life back My story ends in this jail cell Because, I was driving while black I was unworthy of life so they felt No medical attention was given This cell took my last breath literally Now I have no breath..life left The headline reads Convicted murder took his life in jail But, I DID NOT DO IT! #30for30 #nationalpoetrymonth
